Flocking Can Decrease Undesirable Behaviors

Pair bonding and flocking your parrots has endless benefits. Remember, parrots are large flock animals. They’re used to being in large social gatherings their entire life and day. But, in captivity we put them in a cage and most of the time can only interact and be around them a couple hours of the day. Most cages birds can’t even open their wings fully or even have the ability to fly.

Isolation can increase screaming, repetitive behaviors, increase plucking, and so much more. They’re bored and lonely when we aren’t there and they have no one else around. Having another bird in another cage in the same room can help, but barely compared to that amount of interaction they would get with another bird within their reach.

There is always a concern about aggression or killing each other. But, with the proper cage set up and size, appropriate introduction, good personality match, training, and a slow introduction to sharing cage space, you won’t run into as many problems if any at all.

I will always flock birds together when I can, and allow them to interact outside of the cage when they cannot be trusted together inside. But, I am safe about it. It takes planning and time to make it successful.
