Parrot Dancing

Parrots are known to be “natural dancers” and can put on beautiful displays. This is because there is a connection between auditory and motor areas of the brain, at least neuroscientist Dr. Aniruddh and Dr. Patel say. They’re also natural mimickers, usually through vocalization but it can also be passed onto physical movements. They can remember our movements and reactions and replicate them, similar to speech. Dancing can also bring desirable consequences to the bird. We give them extra attention, the energy of the environment increases, and that in return can be rewarding and stimulating for parrots.

Some birds are born with “two left feet” and maybe need some help with learning to dance. Like humans, for some of us, dancing just doesn’t come naturally. Dancing can be taught through trick training. Trick training is a valuable activity to help bond with your bird. It also can be beneficial to rescue birds looking to find their next home to become more adoptable.
