Foot Enrichment

Although hanging toys are great, birds interact with their environment more than one ways. One way I like to spice up my birds enrichment is giving them toy parts they hold with their feet. For the small birds, it’s items like popsicle sticks cut in half, finger traps, coin rolls, or very small pieces of wood. For the big guys, rubber ducks, wood chunks, etc.

You don’t have to go out and buy toy parts either. You can simply wait till a toy is almost completely destroyed, pull it out of the cage early, and then disassemble it and use the remaining parts as foot toys. Take it a step further and you can get stainless steel buckets to hang on the side of the cage and put the parts in there.

I like filling up my birds buckets and add crinkle paper and treats in paper medicine cups to make it a foraging bucket. You can also stick treats in the holes of the toy parts themselves for even more fun! Takes us 5 minutes max to set up, gives your bird hours of entertainment!
