Enrichment Benefits

I’ve talked extensively about the benefits of foraging with all types of behavior, even screaming. One thing I love using foraging for is exercise and muscle building for my birds. I will use foraging to get them moving in their aviaries. I have my birds hang on the cage, even upside down, to get to their foraging. When it isn’t aligned to a perch and they have to climb and hang to get to it, this can build muscles. It’s also pretty common for some parrots (like macaws, conures, and amazons) to hang on the side of clay cliffs to forage for food.

Foraging is to stimulate their natural environment in the ways we can with how they find and get food. Hanging, climbing, flying, it’s all natural to the birds. So, creating foraging with those ideas in mind will only amplify their success.
