Cavity Seeking in Parrots

Cavity searching is very common during hormonal season. This could mean going down your shirt, under blankets, under furniture, getting behind furniture, or digging into your or your sides. This should all be discouraged, as when you encourage hormones, it can lead to further implications.

The easiest thing to do is block off areas your birds are most interested in, disallow them to go to those areas, and if they manage to find new areas, just simply step them up and remove them to a more suitable place.

If your bird is excessively trying to find spots, distracting them and having them out their energy into something else is a good first step! Increase training and mental stimulation through foraging. I would discourage anyone from giving a bird, especially a hormonal one, a box as enrichment. I have a blog post all about why and the dangers!

If you’re unsure how to start your bird foraging, or what it is, I have a webinar on my website going over exactly this! Even how to teach your birds to interact with enrichment! You can view the webinar here.
