Are You Bathing Your Bird Too Much?

Do you bathe your bird? Enough? Too much?

Bathing is a natural behavior for all birds to do. I’m sure you’ve seen birds outside taking baths in little puddles. Parrots are no exception. It helps keep the birds plumage in good condition, encourages grooming behaviors, removes excess feather-down dust, and is great exercise for a parrot.

Your bird won’t really get a lot of these benefits if they do not like to shower. This is because the oils and feather-down dust that coats the feathers can easily make the feather waterproof so no water reaches the birds skin. If the feathers are tight against the birds body, the water is just sliding off the top and doing nothing underneath.

Teaching your bird to bathe is something we can definitely work on teaching on my Patreon account, especially in the cockatoo flock! If you’re not apart of my Patreon, first you’re missing out, but you can always still book a private with me to get the training plan on how to train your bird to like baths!
