Feeding Your Bird Fresh Foods

Eating fresh is best for your bird! Processed pellets and bag seed mixes are not enough, or a completely diet! Some pellets are known to cause an increased chance in behavioral and medical concerns like plucking, ARB, deficiencies, increase in hormonal behavior, and much more. Not all pellet brands are created equal, even the big names people know and have used for a long time.

Fresh is always best with a supplement of pellets to be sure the bird has a more diverse and complete diet. Fresh foods can be tricky to introduce to a bird who is on a dry mix only diet. Lots of people have tried but have not succeeded.

That doesn’t mean it’s impossible! No matter the species or age, birds can learn to eat differently, which includes fresh foods. I have a 57 plus year old red lored amazon that learned how to eat fresh foods within a week of having her (Rukkas), Calvin who is just as old or older learned even faster!

If you’re looking to improve your birds diet, but haven’t had much success on your own, and want to learn tips and tricks and industry secrets on how to get your picky eater to diversify their diet, then I would recommend reaching out to me for a diet conversion behavior consultation. These are tailored specifically to your bird and situation to get them eating fresh foods, or to get them onto pellets from an all seed diet.
