Parrot Diet Additives

Today, my mom and I went on a drive to a holistic store that is heaven on earth for birds! You wouldn’t think a “human” store would be great for bird food shopping, but there is a lot that we have in our stores that are a great addition to your birds diet!

I like adding dried herbs, spices, and other goodies to my birds pellet mix and chop. Those little additions can made a huge impact on diet and varying it for your parrot. I have a few mixes that I concoct from the holistic store on my social media profile already to give everyone some ideas. I’ll also be adding the current one I made below.

My mixes honestly have little thought to them. I just grab amount of ingredients that I want to include for that batch and verity I have access to and mix it all together. We don’t know the exact food pyramid that our parrots need in refused to amount of carbs and protein, so on and so forth, so I focus on diversity to have the best chance of achieving balance and what they need.

There is no reason to stress over diet. As long as what you’re giving is safe for your bird to consume in the amounts you’re giving them, as well as making sure you’re not just feeding all one ingredient, then any additions of any amount will be beneficial!

If you’re unsure of what is safe for your birds to consume, it’s best to ask your avian vet and professionals in the field!
