Bathing Benefits Only When the Bird Enjoys It

When bathing your bird, in order for the bath to be effective, your bird has to enjoy showers And participate in them. When your bird sits still, has their feathers close to their bodies, water is not penetrating through the oil or feather down that the feathers have to get to the skin of the bird. The water will fall right off their bodies. It does not help with excessive oil buildup, dust removal, and skin hydration. That’s why a lot of birds may be showering for 10 minutes but look and feel completely dry. It’s because the shower didn’t actually benefit the birds in anyway. When a bird participates in the shower, they puff up their feathers so the water can access their down feathers and their skin. Putting their wings out and fanning their fails also allow for complete water coverage and when the shake, it distributes water to other areas of the body and aids in loosening and removing anything unwanted.

Training your bird to accept showers is an easy task. There are a lot of variables that go into making each individual’s bath successful, which can make it complicated trying to figure out how to do it on your own. That includes the water pressure, temperature, method of delivery, environment, person giving the bath, and even distance to your bird to name a few.
