Social Media is a Lie

Social media can be deceptive. I could have easily trimmed this video so it’s just the beginning vocalization. Something that is cute, funny, not very loud. Sounds like having a ball of a time. Make you envy me owning a cockatoo, maybe wanting your own.

But, what happened directly after was a screaming fit from over stimulation. Alfie (moluccan cockatoo) was fun for 5 seconds and then he yelled for 5 and I couldn’t handle him for 20 minutes after because he was so over stimulated that he would have potentially aggressed. I know that not every cockatoo that gets over stimulated will bite like Alfie, but Alfie has an extensive bite history to the point where they believed it was unsafe to adopt him out.
Cockatoos are fun. No doubt. He makes me laugh so hard often. But he also is much more. He is easily overstimulated. He is extremely hormonal. He is quick to aggress. That is cockatoos more than a lot of fun. They are the hardest parrots to own properly.

Please don’t impulse by a cockatoo, especially a baby, because you think there cuddly and cute and will fun to own based off of social media videos. I say especially babies because they are so sweet, so hilarious when they’re young. they are quiet and so sweet with everyone and their hormones haven’t developed yet. They made you believe that they are this perfect cockatoo with none of the downside of owning a cockatoo but I promise it will change with maturity
