Training Can Sometimes Be Hard For Us

Training can be intimidating for some people to start. I mean, you don’t know all there is to know about the science of behavior. You don’t know if you’re doing it right. Maybe you heard online about training methods and think “I’ll do that with my bird, it should work.” Some of us try to stride for perfection and if there is a little bump in the road, we give up. Many worry that if they do something wrong it will cost them their relationship with their bird.

Training can be very involved. There are so many things to keep track of. Your positioning, approach, the birds body language, possibly juggling training tools. I will never not acknowledge the struggles of first learning to train your bird.

But remember, training and behavior is a skill that is learned. The learning process takes time for us, and our bird! Mistakes happen. Believe me, I have 110% made so many mistakes in the beginning… and I have the scars to prove it. A mistake may bring some behavioral set back, but it isn’t the end of the world, and just like behavior set back, it can just as easily be improved!

The best thing to do when you are starting to train us to work with a professional. Why? Well, we have more experience and knowledge to be able to coach and guide you to decrease the variables of the possibility of messing up. We give you the steps, for my clients in written form and demonstrated over a video call, so you’re not having to guess what to do. We also explain the behaviors and why we teach them in regards to helping your bird reach the set behavioral goals.

There is no shame in saying “I have no idea what I’m talking about or doing and I need help!” There is no shame in admitting “I’ve tried to work with my bird but the methods I’ve been using haven’t been helping.” We all want what is best for the bird and you! Let’s professionals empower and educate you so you can do the same for your bird!
